Fast Forward

Start-up Capital Telecom Services is growing rapidly.

The wireless telecommunications market is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the world and Capital Telecom Services is claiming its share of that pie. A full-service telecommunications, engineering and construction company, the Sterling, Va.-based firm delivers wireless projects from inception to completion.

The young company completed more than $700,000 of work for wireless projects during its first year of operation in 2016. It expects to triple that amount in 2018.

Capital Telecom Services offers engineering and construction services to carriers, broadband providers, OEMs, wireless support organizations, general ontractors and enterprises on a global level. In the past six months, the company has locked in major business deals. It finalized master service agreements with wireless infrastructure service giants such as Nexius, Crown and Castle, Jacobs Engineering Group and Ericsson.

Master service agreements are very valuable. The process involves everything from financials to meeting a client’s insurance requirements.

A Dynamic Project

Capital Telecom Services was awarded its first major project with AT&T this year. It has been contracted to rebuild the cellular infrastructure at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The outdoor concert venue is located within Symphony Woods, a 40-acre lot of preserved land in the heart of the planned community of Columbia, Md.

One of the largest projects for the company to date, Capital Telecom Services started work in May and is targeting mid-July for its on-air date. With the concert venue being open and operational, the project has its challenges.

The company considers it to be a “dynamic project,” especially due to the scheduling that is involved. Capital Telecom had to meet AT&T’s deadlines and make sure to perform all the work without disrupting pavilion business.

Network Upgrades

Capital Telecom Services is actively involved in another high-profile project for AT&T. The carrier is in the process of a variety of 4.0 network upgrades that include LTE Advanced technologies — such as 256 QAM, 4x4 MIMO and 3-way carrier aggregation — as the company builds toward mobile 5G systems.

Capital Telecom Services, which is subcontracting for Nexius for this project, is in the process of upgrading antennas, remote radio heads and adding first-responder radios to AT&T sites throughout Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland.

Aside from AT&T, Capital Telecom Services has tackled other high-profile projects including the Tabor Center in Denver (pictured above) and The Wharf in Washington, D.C.

With a nationwide footprint, Capital Telecom Services knows no bounds. It has completed multiple projects in multiple states. That includes work on Tabor Center, a 30-story, 734,915-square-foot mixed-use tower in downtown Denver. Tabor Center underwent a $12 million renovation last year that included a new lobby and an outdoor plaza.

Capital Telecom Services is installing a new DAS system with 17 remotes for the tower. The company expects that the project will wrap up this summer.

Last year, Capital Telecom Services worked on a project at The Wharf, a new $2 billion, world-class waterfront neighborhood on the Potomac River, a short walk from the National Mall in the District of Columbia.

The area was once rundown, but it has been transformed into a mixed-use retail office and living space with a new music venue. Capital Telecom Services installed DAS infrastructure for two-thirds of the property.
