Strategic Moves

Gabe’s Wireless Solutions stays on the cutting-edge in wireless engineering

by implementing new technology and forming long-term partnerships.

By Janice Hoppe-Spiers

Gabe’s Wireless Solutions integrates wireless engineering and construction services to be an end-to-end resource for indoor and outdoor DAS, small cells and venue-based wireless networks. Serving wireless carriers, neutral host providers, building and venue owners throughout North America, the company strives to stay on the cutting-edge of technology to continue providing technical engineering expertise to its customers.

Based in Rockledge, Fla., Gabe’s Wireless Solutions became a division of Gabe’s Construction Co., a pipeline, telecommunications, utility and DAS construction company based in Sheboygan, Wis., in 2016. The wireless engineering division specializes in network benchmark and CW testing, design, construction, commissioning and integration, optimization and acceptance testing.

Gabe’s Wireless Solutions’ RF Engineering services are deployed coast-to-coast while its installation of DAS, small cell and wireless services are concentrated in the Midwest and Southeast. “One of our differentiators is that we have familiarity with fiber and know that well,” Vice President Brad Baumann says. “We hear a lot about networks requiring fiber installation, maintenance or troubleshooting and that’s not new to us; we’ve worked with fiber for years. Looking across our segments, we can truly say, we have employees vastly experienced in multiple technical disciplines.”Gabes info box

Gabe’s Wireless Solutions employs a team of 45 people who have solid engineering backgrounds and who are continually adding to their education as Gabe’s provides the ongoing training needed to stay ahead. The company prides itself on attracting top talent because of its family atmosphere and desirable benefits. Many employees have worked their entire career at the 75-year-old family company. “Other than being a good career choice, the benefits our company offers to our employees is the solidifier,” Baumann says.

Next-Generation Technology

Gabe’s Wireless Solutions recently announced the extension of the company’s leadership role in designing and deploying multi-layer, densified urban networks by incorporating Ranplan Wireless’ next-generation indoor/outdoor design solution into its portfolio. Ranplan’s solution is an all-in-one, heterogeneous network planning, optimization and simulation solution for small cells, DAS and Wi-Fi across indoor and outdoor environments, supporting 3G, 4G/LTE, 5G and Internet of Things technologies. It provides true indoor/outdoor HetNet design capabilities with accurate modeling through true 3-D ray-tracing.

“We have found that service providers like Gabe’s Wireless Solutions are increasingly focused on both in-building coverage and densification in urban environments,” said Alastair Williamson, CEO of Ranplan Wireless. “Ranplan Professional offers our service partners the world’s only RF planning solution that allows both in-building and dense outdoor networks to be designed and deployed in coordination with a high-level of accuracy.”

By becoming the first organization to achieve a preferred service partner status under Ranplan’s Professional Program, Gabe’s Wireless Solutions has defined a new standard when designing for the complexities of architecturally diverse indoor and outdoor environments. To become a preferred service partner, the company’s design and engineering teams have completed an intensive, instructor-led Ranplan certification program.

“We are excited about this partnership with Ranplan Wireless and the advantages of adding this advanced tool’s capabilities to the service offerings of our Gabe’s Wireless Solutions division,” says Matt Gabrielse, president of Gabe’s Construction. “With the addition of Ranplan, we have once again enhanced our ability to offer advanced engineering solutions by expanding our existing service portfolio of design, data collection, commissioning and testing of cellular, WiFi and public safety networks.”

The Ranplan solution’s fast prediction run time and advanced building structure modeling, from floors and stairs to tunnels, offers Gabe’s Wireless Solutions an alternative to traditional design software and delivers increased accuracy and efficiency. With its preferred status, Gabe’s Wireless Solutions will maintain ongoing collaboration with Ranplan’s research and software development teams and regional leaders to formulate technical feedback for implementing advanced software features into its projects.

“We work extremely hard to stay on the cutting-edge and this partnership is a great example of what we are doing to stay on top in RF Engineering services, specifically,” Baumann notes. “RF Engineering is not a commodity. You have to make investments in tools, equipment, training and new technology.”

Moving forward, Gabe’s Wireless Solutions plans to continue keeping its finger on the pulse of the industry and change will be driven by technology. “We will continue evolving with the technology – 5G and others – and stay up to speed in order to have the technical expertise our customers are demanding and deserve,” Baumann says. “We will continue to be a broader solution provider for our customers. We are not a big, publicly held company, but a good size company not afraid to make big moves.”
